The Time I Met a Foreign Doctor
By: Allie B

Tom and his wife had just moved here from Montana. His wife’s job transferred over. Tom and his wife have two kids. Sarah, his eleven year old loves playing sports. She sits down and watches every sports game on TV. She plays three sports. His six year-old-daughter is the exact opposite. She likes to play with baby dolls. Her favorite thing to do is play with her dollhouse. Emma’s little six year-old mind thinks the world is perfect so when something goes wrong, she can’t stand it. One day they were getting ready to go to the park when something awful happened.
They were just getting everything together for the park. Sarah was in the garage waiting while Tom helped Emma find her tennis shoes. Allie was singing her foot around carelessly and accidentally scraped her left shin on the very edge of the old microwave hood on the cement. Searing pain started to creep to every inch of her body. She tried to yell but no sounds came out. Soon she yelled, “ Dad, come help me! ” Sarah sat in the garage feverishly waiting for her dad when he rushed down he stairs. He only had to see the gushing blood to know what to do next.
Tom darted back in the house and scooped Emma up as if she was melted ice cream. He rushed back to the garage and put them both in his truck and drove to the hospital. When they got there after what seemed like forever, Tom called his wife to notify her that her daughter had just scraped her leg on a microwave hood and was at the ER getting stitches. She was very nervous. When they brought Sarah in, she sat on a large bed waiting for the doctor to come in. When he came in, it caught all of them by surprise because when he talked, he had an accent. It was unmistakably French. Emma started to freak out. She didn’t understand anything he said and she thought everything was all wrong. The doctor said to them, “ My name is Bernard.” He rolled his “r” in Bernard very loudly.
